Arthur J. Abramowitz is a shareholder and chairs the firm’s Bankruptcy, Insolvency and Workout department. Arthur has over 40 years’ experience in various aspects of corporate reorganizations and workouts, as well as commercial litigation and is widely recognized as a leader of the bankruptcy bar.
He has successfully reorganized numerous debtors and has represented creditors’ committees, secured and unsecured creditors, and trustees. Arthur has also served as trustee in a number of Chapter 11 cases as well as a court appointed receiver in state court cases. A substantial part of his practice is related to business workouts involving debtors, guarantors and lenders.
Arthur has been involved in numerous mass tort cases relating to asbestos, as well as diet supplements. Arthur has led his firm’s representation of the Talc Creditors’ Committee II in the LTL Management Chapter 11 case, in Trenton.
Arthur is currently representing:
- The Official Committee of Tort Claimants in the Rite Aid Corporation, et. al. Chapter 11 proceedings;
- The Official Committee of Talc Claimants in the Chapter 11 cases of Whittaker Clark & Daniels, Inc., et. al,;
- Sixty-two parishes, certain schools and certain missions in the Diocese of Camden Chapter 11 case pending in Camden
- One of the largest landlords in the WeWork Inc. bankruptcy proceedings
Arthur has an active mediation practice and has served as a mediator in a multitude of cases. Arthur has also served as an expert witness in a number of bankruptcy related cases.
Arthur is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. On numerous occasions, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals selected Arthur to serve as a member of the merit selection committee for the appointment of Bankruptcy Judges. Arthur is a past President of the Camden County, the Federal Bar Association and served as the President of the Bankruptcy Section of the New Jersey Bar Association.
Arthur been selected for inclusion in the list of the Best Lawyers in America in the area of Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/ Insolvency and Reorganization Law for over thirty-five years and has also been recognized in Chambers.. Selection methodology for these awards can be found here.
Arthur graduated from Rutgers University in 1969 and from Temple University School of Law in 1972, where he was Executive Editor of the Law Review. After graduation, Arthur clerked for the Honorable Mitchell H. Cohen, Judge of the United States District Court.
